- Continued Education:Advanced Class (7 Week Class):
Prerequisite: These Classes are only for The Right Steps Graduates of Surviving Puppyhood Classes, Surviving Adolescence Classes, or Adult Dog Basic Training Classes (6 or 8 week).
Our Advanced Class is structured to prepare students for the Canine Good Citizenship Test, working dogs on the side of our body versus in front of us to prepare for future dog sports, and working with increased distractions.
4 Weeks are at The Training Facility & 3 Weeks will be Field Trips into the Real World. This Class is offered during the non-rainy seasons of the year (Spring, Summer, & Fall). All weeks are with the dog, no lecture.
These Classes are only for The Right Steps Graduates of Surviving Puppyhood Classes, Surviving Adolescent Classes, or Adult Dog Basic Training Classes (6 or 8 week).
In order to participate in the Field Trip portion of the Classes (Weeks #5-through-#7), Clients must participate in a minimum 2 of the 4 Weeks at the Training Facility with their dogs. Although prefer 3 of 4 (Weeks #1-through-#4). This is a safety feature to help insure the dogs will be safe to proceed on in public.
Examples of Course Structure: Increased Distractions when working on basic cues (Sit, Down from a Sit and from a Stand, Sit Stay, Down Stay, Recalls, Loose Leash Walking, & Attention Walking/Heel), Leave It, Sit/Stays & Down/Stays at Client's Side while a stranger approaches and asks to pet your dog (goal is to hold the stay and not jump ultimately for handshakes and petting dog), while attention walking/heeling add in at your side sits, sit then down, and downs from a stand, long line recalls, and emergency recalls.
Field Trips: May be at locations with no parking fees (Examples: local parks and shopping center) or locations with Parking Fees (Example: Sacramento County Park, $5.00). We normally do a mixture. Clients are responsible for paying for parking fees (via cash at time of parking unless already own an annual pass).
